Distinguish between potassium salt and white potassium (KNO3)
Distinguishing between potassium salt and white potassium (KNO3)
Potassium fertilizer (fertilizer containing K): The potassium content in fertilizer is calculated as K2O. There are the following common types.
– Potassium chloride (KCl): Contains 50 – 60% K2O, pink powder like chili salt, white like foam salt, easy to absorb moisture, clumping. As a physiologically acidic fertilizer, KCL is fertilized for many types of plants on many types of soil, suitable for coconut trees (because coconut trees like chlorine). KCL is not fertilized for salty soil and plants that do not like chlorine (such as root crops, tobacco, coffee, durian because chlorine affects the flavor).
Distinguishing between potassium salt and white potassium (KNO3)
– Potassium sulfate (K2SO4): Contains 45 – 50% K2O and 18% S, fine crystals, white, less clumping. As a physiologically acidic fertilizer, used for many years to increase the acidity of the soil. Potassium sulfate is suitable for many crops such as oil plants, rapeseed, tobacco, tea, coffee, etc.
- Potassium nitrate (KNO3): Contains 46% K2O and 13% N, crystalline form, white color. As a precious and expensive fertilizer, potassium nitrate is often sprayed on leaves or applied to the roots of high-value plants. Spraying on leaves at the appropriate concentration also stimulates plants to flower early and simultaneously. Plants sensitive to chlorine such as tobacco, durian, aromatic plants, using KNO3 as a base fertilizer is effective. - Potassium magnesium sulfate (K2SO4.MgSO4.6H2O): Contains 20 - 30% K2O + 10 - 15% MgO + 16 - 22% S. Used for all plants on all types of soil, this fertilizer is suitable for acidic, gray, infertile soil, sandy soil often low in magnesium and plants with high magnesium needs such as fruit trees, vegetables, ... Mainly used to spray on leaves, can also be applied to the roots.
- Potassium phosphate (KH2PO4) also known as MKP: Contains 35% K2O and 52% P2O5. Due to its high cost, this fertilizer is prioritized for spraying on leaves for high economic efficiency, stimulating plants to flower early and simultaneously, with a high fruit set rate.
Mixed fertilizers (including NPK + micronutrients), also known as NPK + TE fertilizer, are two or more types of single fertilizers mixed together with trace elements (TE) by mechanical methods or complex in the form of 1 grain. In addition to the elements N, P, K, there are also Mg, Ca, S and trace elements (TE). There are types such as: PK fertilizer (used for poor soil, light sand lacking potassium and tuber plants that need a lot of potassium), NP (used for soil with high potassium content such as alluvial soil, acid sulfate soil), DAP (used for rice and many types of terrestrial plants, suitable for acid sulfate soil, basalt soil), NPK + TE fertilizer.
Currently, there are many types of NPK mixed fertilizers with different ratios and mixed with trace elements (TE), suitable for each type of soil and each type of plant such as NPK 25-5-5 + TE; NPK 16-8-16 + TE; NPK 8-16-16 + TE; NPK 12-6-18; NPK 18-6-12; NPK 12-12-17.
